Silva's awareness on climate change began when she lived in Semarang, whose land was experiencing land subsidence every year. Her concern becomes bigger after witnessing a part of the Tambakrejo, a village on the coastal area, was sinking, submerged in sea water. Silva is furious because according to her, until now the Semarang City government has yet taken any significant action regarding the land subsidence. The city government, in fact, only proposes to open a new area for residential and business development in Ngaliyan, which according to her, actually worsens the environmental and climatic conditions because Ngaliyan is a water catchment area.
To show her concern, Silva started a campaign by actively writing and voicing the issue of land subsidence in Semarang through the Justisia Student Press Institute, a student press organization on the campus where she currently studies.
