This is a contract based - full time position. The length of the contract is 12 months, but there’s a strong expectation that this will lead to a longer-term commitment. The selected person will work remotely, with occasional offline meetings in Jakarta when necessary. This role will report to the Executive Director.

Overview of Role
The main responsibility of the Communications Officer will focus on building strong, nurturing relationships with the participants and alumni of WeSpeakUp.org’s training programmes and guiding them via various communications channels (such as email, whatsApp and calls) so that each changemaker is empowered to be the face and voice of their respective campaign, and is fully involved in running it, speaking to media, and meeting relevant partners/ decision makers.
The Communications Officer will work closely with the Campaign Director to build up our brand and help establish WeSpeakUp.org as the central platform for community and movement builders for social change in Indonesia. Together with the campaign team, the Communications Officer will spot breakthrough campaigns with a significant chance of achieving strategic social change, and then craft communications strategies to help campaign creators to win the campaign and create impact.
Core Job Responsibilities:
- Identifying promising grassroots campaigns started by civic leaders on local or regional issues. The Communications Officer will help these campaigns win by providing strategic advice, conducting media outreach, and promoting them via compelling and well written contents.
- Designing and executing rapid-response social change advocacy campaigns in partnership with other stakeholders, with the potential for explosive growth and swift victories.
- Developing and executing communications strategies and tactics to tell compelling stories of civic leaders’ led campaigns and engaging millions of Indonesians in the process of creating, joining and winning campaigns for social change.
- Engaging with different media outlets, content creators & key opinion leaders to communicate campaign messages and organizational communications.
- Under the direction of the Executive Director, organize strategic public events and community gathering (online and offline), ensuring quality, up-to-date events/community meetings/training being offered. This position will need to travel to strategic cities across Indonesia.
- Build and maintain relationships with community organizations, NGO partners, participants, and alumni cohorts to promote the organization's mission and services.
Core Competencies:
- Having a minimum of 3 years professional experience in the campaign or communications field, having experience in media or journalism will be an advantage.
- A deep understanding of campaigning and a commitment to our mission to promote civic participation and empower people - especially those from marginalized communities, to win campaigns on the issues that matter to them.
- Excellent verbal and writing skills in Bahasa Indonesia, able to craft compelling and persuasive written communication for a general audience. Skills in public speaking is a plus.
- Innovative ideas on how to use communications, media and storytelling to win local and national campaigns - and a willingness to learn and experiment, to fail and to adapt.
- Insightful understanding of messaging and framing, and the judgment to repeatedly find the right message to engage WeSpeakUp.org’s program participants and alumni, campaign targets, journalists and other stakeholders.
- Enjoy working in an online environment, using social media and collaborating using online tools.
- Strong rapport-building and relationship skills. You can effectively build and maintain partnerships and be a trusted ally amongst social change campaigners in Indonesia.
- Initiative and a can-do attitude across a variety of campaign issue areas.
- Creative, result oriented and highly productive even with minimum supervision.
- Have a general understanding of the socio-political landscape in Indonesia, especially social justice issues affecting women and marginalized communities.
