WeSpeakUp.org is a local nonprofit organization founded by women to strengthen civic spaces and promote inclusive social movements in Indonesia. We empower marginalized communities, particularly women and youth, through training, mentoring, and community- and digital-based campaigns.
Since our inception in 2019 as part of the global initiative She Creates Change, we have grown into an independent organization with a national reach. To date, more than 170 change-makers from 28 provinces have joined us and created social campaigns that have reached over 1 million people. We continue to expand our impact through programs such as Muda Bersua(ra) and Puan Bersua(ra), which bring together women and youth activists across various issues from different regions.
We envision a world where marginalized communities—especially women and young people—have the power to speak out, make a difference, and build a just and equitable society.
We work with marginalized groups and those closest to the issues at the grassroots level to promote inclusivity and encourage meaningful public participation.
We carry out our mission through three key pillars that reinforce one another:
We launched this initiative through the She Creates Change – Green Camp program, which empowers women environmental leaders in Indonesia as part of a global initiative launched by Change.org.
Due to the pandemic, we switched the training format from in-person to online. A total of 50 women from 22 provinces participated in the program through 2021.
The program evolved into We Create Change, reaching a more inclusive group—women, young people, and marginalized communities—based on the principle of intersectionality.
WeSpeakUp.org was officially established as an independent local organization. As of mid-2024, our programs have reached 279 social activists from 28 provinces, and their campaigns have garnered over 1 million public endorsements.
We launched the Puan Bersua(ra) program to strengthen connections among female alumni and other communities. The first program in Yogyakarta brought together 21 women from diverse backgrounds and generations.
The Muda Bersua(ra) Sulawesi Chapter program was launched in May and continued with the Bali and Nusa Tenggara chapters in September. A total of approximately 200 young people from eastern Indonesia collaborated, building networks and capacity in social campaigns.
The WeSpeakUp.org team is a group of professionals dedicated to amplifying the voices of change-makers across Indonesia.
