Young people’s voices—especially those from marginalized communities—have the power to inspire meaningful change. With the support and mentorship of WeSpeakUp.org, these voices become more than stories of local realities. They grow into collective movements that raise public awareness, influence conversations, and create lasting impact within communities.

Campaigns Led by Young People & Women Changemakers

8 young and women changemakers from 6 provinces across Indonesia have taken meaningful action to advance social justice, environmental sustainability, and human rights through grassroots campaigns supported by WeSpeakUp.org. Their initiatives demonstrate how local leadership and collective action can spark change where it matters most.

Awi • Sulawesi Tengah

Driven by concerns over data breaches and information exploitation, Awi launched the #JagaDataJagaDiri campaign in collaboration with WeSpeakUp.org, Forum Sudut Pandang, Srikandi KBGO, SAFEnet, and Komunitas Muda Bersua(ra).

Finda • Sulawesi Utara

Finda, with the Society of Indonesian Environmental Journalists, launched the "Voice of Nature through Art: Journalists for the Earth" campaign. 100 people attended the arts performance and community engagement event, while 50 individuals participated actively throughout the activities.

Arman • Sulawesi Tengah

Arman launched a movement via an online petition due to his home—the Palu–Donggala coast—was being damaged by Class C mining activities. Support from WeSpeakUp.org in strengthening storytelling helped make Arman’s campaign message accessible to a wider audience.

Asisah • Sulawesi Selatan

By WeSpeakUp.org's training, Asisah initiated a campaign "Abrasi Akan Memakan Masa Kecil Kami" alongside Sulawesi Youth Against the Climate Crisis. This campaign provides a platform for children and women to share their experiences.

Amalia • Sulawesi Tenggara

Despite facing criminalization alongside dozens of other residents, Amalia and the people of Torobulu Village remain steadfast in their efforts to halt mining activities that are destroying water sources and the sea. Support from WeSpeakUp.org has strengthened Amalia's capacity.

Audo • Sumatera Utara

As a lawyer at BAKUMSU, Audo actively provides legal support to Indigenous communities and victims of human rights violations, particularly in land-grabbing cases. Through the WeSpeakUp.org advocacy program—which successfully garnered national attention—Sorbatua Siallagan was acquitted.

Valeria • NTT

Valeria is an artist and environmental activist who focuses on the issue of confiscation of living space from geothermal projects. With Rumah Baca Aksara, we document the struggles of Poco Leok residents through film screenings in more than 10 locations at home and abroad.

Nia Oy • NTT

Nia Oy wants every child to be able to go to school. “Every time I see those children smile when receiving school aid, and every time I witness parents weeping with joy because their children can continue their education, something within me heals.”

Nia Oy is a young activist from East Sumba dedicated to advancing women’s empowerment and protecting children’s rights. Through the Muda Bersua(ra) Simpul Bali–Nusa program, she strengthened her skills in creative campaigning, intersectional movement building, media engagement, and policy advocacy with the support of WeSpeakUp.org. Together with the Ana Humba Community, Nia Oy launched a campaign against violence toward children through the short film This Is Not Home. WeSpeakUp.org supported the campaign by facilitating public screenings of the film at 3 locations, in collaboration with Department of Criminology, University of Indonesia; National Commission for Protection of Child Rights; and Humanis Foundation
